Open a folder and walk through its files one at a time: images, videos, and audio files, and on request PDFs and every other file that has a preview.
Every file is kept or discarded with one keystroke; a decision can be taken back, and the last step undone.
When a session opens you settle whether the files of the subfolders belong to it.
A session can be closed at any time and picked up later — it opens again on the same file, in the viewer as in the grid.
The toolbar hides single file kinds and filters by decision and rating.
Refresh reads the folder again and takes in the files that have arrived or vanished since.
A menu on the file shows it in the Finder, copies its name and path, renames it, moves it into a folder, or puts it in the Trash.

A file can be kept and given a rating from 1 to 9 in one step.
When sorting out, FlowRate writes the ratings into the files themselves on request, so the Finder and Spotlight show them too.

Two layouts: one file at a time in the viewer, or all files side by side in the grid.
Videos and audio files play, PDFs are shown page by page; playback, sound, and page layout are yours to set.
A coloured frame shows on every decided file how it was decided.
An image can be magnified and fitted back into the view; whether an image starts fitted or at its actual size is yours to set.
On request a panel over the file names its metadata: capture date, camera, lens, aperture, exposure, dimensions, duration, location, size, and more; the corner it sits in is yours to choose.
The icon size of the grid changes, and several files can be selected and decided in one step.
In the grid the selection moves from the keyboard by one file or by a whole row, without deciding anything.
The status bar names the folder and the name of the current file, the magnification of the image, and counts how many files are kept, discarded, and still open.
Even folders of tens of thousands of files stay fluid while you scroll.

Discarded files stay where they are, move into a folder, go to the Trash, or are deleted permanently.
Kept files stay in place or move into a folder — on request into a folder of their own per rating.
When files move, FlowRate recreates the subfolders or lays every file flat into the destination folder.
In the same step the files can be renamed by a rule set; a preview shows beforehand what the names will look like.
Before anything is deleted permanently, FlowRate asks.
Folders left empty are moved to the Trash on request.

A rule set builds the new name out of steps: template, find and replace, prefix, suffix, insert, remove, truncate, and letter case.
Placeholders put in what the file holds: capture date, camera, lens, dimensions, duration, artist, album, title, page count, rating, and more.
A running number, Windows-safe names, and the case of the extension belong to the rule set.
Every step applies to chosen file kinds or extensions alone.
A preview over the files of the running session shows every change at once.
Four ready-made rule sets are included; your own can be handed on and read back in.

FlowRate finds files of identical content and clears the extra copies away, to the Trash or for good.
The list shows every group with a preview and the space it frees.
Which copy stays is a click on its name.
Duplicate copies can be taken along by a sort-out run as well.
When a kept file already lies in the destination folder, you settle beforehand which of the two stays.

Favorites, open sessions, and recently opened folders wait on the start screen; every list can be hidden.
A favorite remembers its subfolder scope and sort-out settings of its own and starts with them without asking.
An open session shows how many files are decided already and is picked up from there.
From the Finder a folder is handed straight to FlowRate through the Services menu.

Settings gather session, viewer, rating, media, favorites, and renaming rules in one place.
Every command that matters sits on a keyboard shortcut as well; the Help menu shows them all.
The interface speaks English, German, French, and Spanish, and switches language without a restart.
